Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaiʻi, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky (PPGNHAIK) provides comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare to patients regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
The project expands equitable access to care across King County, with a focus on teens and women ages 14–49 who are uninsured, enrolled in Medicaid, or living at or below 150% of the federal poverty level. PPGNHAIK serves a diverse patient population, including many BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals who face barriers to care related to cost, stigma, discrimination, and limited access to culturally responsive providers.
Services are available at six King County health centers and through telehealth and include contraception, STI and HIV testing and treatment, abortion and miscarriage care, gender affirming hormone therapy, cancer screenings, and wellness visits. Unlike many providers, PPGNHAIK does not limit the number of Medicaid or uninsured patients it serves, and nearly 70% of its Medicaid patients report having no other healthcare provider.
Since receiving PHPDA funding in 2025, PPGNHAIK has expanded rapid syphilis testing and treatment to all King County health centers, increased telehealth access through synchronous and asynchronous care, and launched implementation of its abortion expansion project. Between July 2025 and February 2026, the organization provided more than $698,000 in financial assistance to King County patients, while at least 90% of patients continued to recommend Planned Parenthood as their provider.
During this period, PPGNHAIK also responded to significant funding and policy challenges. Federal restrictions temporarily prevented Medicaid patients from accessing Planned Parenthood services, requiring the organization to subsidize care while Washington State implemented a one-year funding backfill. At the same time, reductions in Title X and state abortion access funding placed additional strain on services.
In Year 2, PPGNHAIK will continue expanding abortion care at its Central District health center through facility renovations, increased procedural capacity, extended gestational age abortion care through 28 weeks, and sedation options for all gynecological procedures. These improvements will expand access to patient-centered care while strengthening the organization’s long-term financial sustainability through increased clinical capacity and more diverse revenue sources.
